The internationally acclaimed poet praised actress for being a role model to all women and encouraged her to keep at it this year.
Before ringing in the new year, Maine Mendoza looked back on how 2018 turned out to be one of her best and happiest years yet to date.
In a pensive Instagram post dated January 1, the so-called Dubsmash Queen touched on her not-so-secret rocky journey in 2017 — the same year she went on a hiatus following the hullabaloo that transpired for having revealed that she and onscreen partner Alden Richards are just but friends in real life — and how such lows shaped her into the woman that she is today.
“2018, you have done me so well. Took all the lessons learned from my mistakes and difficult times last year to make 2018 one of the best, most memorable years yet. I am happier now than I have ever been and am incredibly blessed with so many wonderful things - from the very start of the year until today. Couldn’t be more grateful for everything!,” said Maine.
The 23-year-old star also talked about removing toxicity from her life by cutting a few people off — one of the best decisions that she did for herself for this year.
“I am just so so glad to have finally moved on from the toxic energy and people that used to drain me - the best realisation and resolution still. Cheers to a great year! And may we always find the courage to let go of what’s weighing us down. Hoping 2019 is even more exciting and fruitful for all of us. Happy New Year, everyone!,” said Maine.
At the end was Thai poet Lang Leav’s famous quote that best encapsulates the breakthrough actress’ 2018, which reads, “Don’t stay where you are needed. Go where you are loved.”
Having gone viral online, it was only a matter of time before the internationally acclaimed writer has noticed Maine’s post, leaving the latter with the best gift for the new year by way of a word of encouragement from Leav herself.
“Such a brave, strong role model for all women. Sending you lots of love, Maine! Happy 2019! Keep shining,” said Leav.
Meanwhile, aside from a personal message from her favorite poet, Maine had the warmest welcome for 2019 with the success of her film, Metro Manila Film Festival leading entry Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles, wherein she starred alongside two of the biggest names in showbiz, Vic Sotto and Coco Martin.
Currently, the comedy, action-packed film is still showing in over a hundred cinemas nationwide.
