The cat is out of the bag: Maroon 5 is the chosen group of performers to headline the prestigious Super Bowl LIII Halftime show this year, as confirmed on their official Twitter page through a promotional video posted last Sunday (U.S. Time).

Set in Atlanta, Georgia, the pop rock band will perform this February 3 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, alongside rappers Big Boi and Travis Scott as special guests for the act.

“Super Bowl LIII marks Pepsi's seventh year as title sponsor of the Super Bowl Halftime Show and 17th year as a National Football League (NFL) partner. Pepsi and the NFL have teamed up again to provide fans with a halftime experience worthy of pop-culture's biggest stage,” stated the NFL.

In 2018, reports claimed that singers P!nk and Rihanna were initially chosen by the NFL as the supposed headliners for this year, but both reportedly turned down the offer – the former due to the dragging negotiation process, and the latter due to her support of athlete and activist Colin Kaepernick, the football quarterback known for taking a knee during the U.S. national anthem as a show of protest against the racial injustice in America. However, both claims have yet to be confirmed by the said artists.

Meanwhile, the other celebrities who have performed in the Halftime Show were Justin Timberlake (2018), Lady Gaga (2017), Coldplay, together with Beyoncé and Bruno Mars (2016), and Katy Perry (2015), who remains unbeatable with the highest rating of 118.5 million views.
