The new Kid’s Choice host talks about what happened after his break-up with Gretchen Ho.
As one of the hosts of ABS-CBN’s newest talent reality competition “The Kid’s Choice,” which starts airing this Saturday, September 1, Robi Domingo admitted that he is thankful to get a new blessing this year after going through a tough time last year.
“Siyempre it feels so unreal. Hanggang ngayon kinikilig pa rin ako whenever I see the schedules sa kalendaryo. Kasi last year ang tagal kong naghintay, isang taon din. Maliban sa ASAP, I was practically doing nothing for television except for Myx and ASAP na regular kong ginagawa. So after one year yung last na project ko is I Can Do That, nagkaroon ako ng siyempre, konting mga anxiety attacks kasi siyempre kini-kuwestiyon mo yung sarili mo eh. Parang, ‘Pangit ba ako? Kapalit palit ba ako?’ Hindi na ako ginagamit ng ABS-CBN, parang ganun. And then finally dumating na itong Star Hunt and itong panibagong blessing na The Kid’s Choice na sobrang overwhelming pa rin hanggang ngayon,” he shared.
The Kapamilya host shared how he had to deal with anxiety attacks last year and how he got through the personal ordeal. “Kasi I have been doing some advocacies with some of my friends kasi hindi naman tama na gamitin ang depression and sadness. Anxiety attacks minsan may gradients yan, may levels 'yan, eh so last year na-experience ko din yun. And hindi siya biro kasi ang dami kong pinagdaanan pero ang problema dapat dinadaanan lang 'yan, eh. Luckily, I have my friends who helped me and they channeled the negative energy into businesses, nandoon yung kapatid ko, yung pamilya ko. And then at the end of the day, para sa akin it’s a choice that you have to make and ang choice ko naman is maging maligaya,” he said.
Robi admitted that his breakup with Gretchen Ho last year may also have been one of the reasons that triggered his anxiety attacks. “Maybe because of the breakup, because of you question yourself, hindi ko alam kung saan ako pupunta after how many years tapos nakita ko pa yung mga kaklase ko dati na nasa college, grumaduate na bilang doctor tapos ako wala akong trabaho nung mga times na yun. Sabi ko, ‘Ano bang mangyayari sa buhay ko?’ Ayun, minsan gumigising ako bigla ng mga 2 or 3 am,” he recalled.
The Kid’s Choice host also reacted to photos circulating on social media of him on a date, which was posted by his good friend Alex Gonzaga after running into him unexpectedly at a mall. “Honestly hindi ko talaga alam kung ano yung nangyari but kung ano man yung nangyari dun and kung ano man yung nangyayari ngayon ay I really hope that I have to keep it private kasi kung sino man yung kasama ko, she’s not a public figure and very private yung family niya,” he said.
Robi admitted he was happy to bring her as a date during a recent celebrity premiere. "Sa premiere night ni Anne Curtis sa BuyBust kasi mahilig naman talaga siya sa local movies. She’s into supporting local movies, local arts, basta anything local,” he added.
Although he admitted his status is just currently dating, Robi said he only gets into a relationship with intentions to make it serious in the future. “Actually hanggang ngayon ko alam kung ready na ba or hindi, basta alam ko masaya ako. Whenever I enter into a relationship, hopefully nandun na. hindi naman ako pupunta sa isang relasyon kung maglalaro lang ako eh. Hindi pa handa pero hinahanda yung sarili,” he admitted.
