Paulo Avelino shares discovery about Gregorio Del Pilar: ‘Haka haka na madami siyang babae’

Playing the title role of national hero Gregorio Del Pilar in the film Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, Paulo Avelino said historical films should play an important part in educating Filipinos. “Mahalaga sa akin itong pelikulang ito hindi lang bilang artista kundi bilang mamamayang Pilipino dahil importanteng malaman ang istorya natin. Importante sa atin ang paulit-ulit na paalala sa atin itong mga nangyari sa historya natin para makita natin ang mga pagkakamali natin at maitama natin ang mga pagkakamali natin,” he shared.Paulo said the movie should help create a stronger sense of national identity among Pinoys. “Ang maaasahan ng manunuod dito sa pelikula, first of all it’s going to be entertaining. Madaming makaka-relate dito in terms of not just with the young people but with all generations. It’s not just because of our history but it’s also because of knowing and remembering who you are. Tandaan mo kung sino ka. Pagpapaalala sa iyo kung sino ka,” he explained.While shooting the historical epic which took over a year to make, Paulo said he discovered a lot of interesting facts about the courageous general who died in battle at the age of 24. “Medyo marami (akong na-discover) actually. Yung iba karamihan nadiskubre ko sa pagbabasa ng script at sa mga libro na nabasa ko din. On the physical side hindi ko alam na may gold tooth si Goyo. Alam ko may haka haka na madami siyang babae (laughs) dahil nga may mga relatives na nagpapatunay. Marami pang iba pero yung ibang nadiskubre ko kay Goyo ay hindi nabanggit ng pelikula,” he said.
