During her AnneKulit concert last August 18, Anne Curtis took the audience on a nostalgic journey that revisited her 21 years in showbiz. “My whole journey in the industry started in the ‘90s. Kumakain ako sa Jollibee with my family tapos nilapitan ako ng isang talent manager 1996 yun. Nag-VTR ako and I just didn’t stop working from then on. From commercials hanggang sa nag-movies so yung very first movie ko was Magic Kingdom which was an instant entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival nung 1997,” she recalled.
The multi-talented performer said she initially had her doubts about staging a finale concert after her first concert four years ago. “It’s been an awesome 21 years in the industry and nung una hindi ako sure if I wanted to do this concert kasi sabi ko may manunuod pa ba sa akin? (laughs) Kasi siyempre hindi naman talaga ako singer ‘di ba? Pero I’m thankful kasi kahit hindi nga ako singer, you guys are here to celebrate those amazing 21 years. It’s been an awesome, wonderful, and definitely a rollercoaster ride of an AnneKulit journey,” she shared.
Apart from perfecting her singing and acting skills, Anne said learning Tagalog was also a big challenge for her when she joined showbiz. “Feeling ko ang struggle ko noon na struggle ko pa rin ngayon ang mag-Tagalog (laughs). Bulol talaga ako kasi baluktot talaga yung dila ko. I just kept on learning the language and speaking it kahit bulol na bulol ako. Pero ayan, at least ngaon medyo dumiretso pero the struggle is real pa rin,” she said.
The AnneKulit concert included guests like Sarah Geronimo, Regine Velasquez, James Reid, Ex Battalion, and her G-Force family as well as a special video appearance by Anne’s former teen love team partner Chubi Del Rosario (which was a surprise from her Shopee Philippines family). Anne took her audience down memory lane as she showcased all the different moments in her 21 years in showbiz. “I promise it’s going to be a sweet ride. It might not be perfect. Walang perfect pitch. Baka mali-mali lyrics ko. Baka mali-mali yung dance steps ko, pero yun ako eh. Basta ang importante we have an awesome show. Ang mahalaga, we’re just going to have fun. It’s all about breaking free,” she said.
During the concert, the Viva artist also shared her secret to her staying on top of her game in the industry. “Any performer worth his salt would tell you para magtagal ka sa industriyang ito, you should constantly evolve or reinvent yourself. At dapat sumasabay ka sa panahon. It’s either magpapauso ka or ikaw yung sasabay sa uso. At sa 21 years ko po, ako lang ang nagpauso ng ganitong boses (laughs). Nag-iisa ito! Ako lang ang may ganitong boses at nag-concert sa Araneta ng tatlong beses. O ha!” she added.
