EXCLUSIVE: Thou Reyes on working on his first action film: ‘Hindi pala siya madali’

As part of Erich Gonzales’s new action thriller We Will Not Die Tonight, Thou Reyes said he is proud of their movie which is currently showing in theaters nationwide until August 21. “Matagal namin itong ginawa nila Erich (Gonzales), almost a year and a few months. And then ngayon kasama na siya sa Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino kaya we’re grateful. We’re really excited and nervous,” he told PUSH.

Although he also had fight scenes in the primetime fantaserye Bagani, Thou said it is a different kind of action from We Will Not Die Tonight. “This is action stuff (laughs). I didn’t know, I thought madali lang yun because I work out. I’m very active. But then when we were doing the film and shooting the action scenes, hindi pala siya madali. Nag-level up yung respect ko sa mga action stars kasi ang hirap pala. Because it’s the energy, the adrenaline, physically, mentally, and spiritually dapat you’re 100%. Ganun pala gumawa ng isang action film,” he shared.

The film focuses on the life of Kray, a struggling stuntwoman who agrees to go on one last job with her friends just to earn some money. Thou plays one of her longtime friends who ends up having to fight just to survive the night. “We had no extra training here because yung character ko at saka yung characters ng mga friends ko no formal training because hindi kami martial artists. Yung character namin mga taong kalye, kami yung mga normal na tao. So ang away namin, away kalye. Kailangan lang siguro yung endurance mo lang, tama yung tulog mo. Kasi nga sobrang hirap nung mga action scenes,” he recalled.

The talented actor said he appreciated how director Richard Somes set the pace for the entire project. “Good thing kasi yung director namin he’s very hands-on and ang alaga niya sa lahat, hindi lang sa artista pati sa prod, sa staff, sa talents, pati sa extras, pati sa stuntmen, he’s there. Kaya kung ano yung energy niya pinapantayan lang namin. Kasi hindi kami puwedeng mapagod eh kasi yung director namin sobrang into it. Even Erich. Anong karapatan namin mapagod kung si Erich nga while we were doing this she was doing another film and sobrang segue siya. Hindi mo makikita yung pagod sa kanya. So kami din pinapantayan namin. Yun yung magandang nangyari dito nagtulungan kami sa energy-wise physically,” he explained.
