Though it may seem like Atty. King Rodrigo courted Boots Anson-Roa the old-fashioned way, the latter revealed that her current husband actually found a step closer to her heart by writing her poems sent through text messages.
“Bagama’t totoo na there were more opportunities for closer, interpersonal relationships during our time, hindi naman natin tahasang masasabi na completely wala na. Katunayan nga, ironically, nung nagliligawan kami ni Atty. Rodrigo, he was 74, I was 68 or 67 and [through] cellphone. Text messaging ang medium ng ligawan namin,” the 73-year-old actress said.
“Nakakatuwa dahil sa edad na ‘yun, kahit sa opisina may meeting siya nagtetext. Tapos sa golf course kasama mga kaibigan nagtatime-out ‘pag mayroong mga text messages. Ako din ganun din. During our most important functions during the day, nagtatime-out kami for the text messaging. Kaya lang, ang kaibahan nun ang tintext niya sakin ay mga tula - tulang ginagawa niya right then and there,” she added.
But Boots admitted that the most difficult part of sending each other messages is the pace and the amount of time she had to spend in composing her message.
“There was one time, interesting time, we were saying teka muna ang hirap netong text actually. Mahirap din kasi pareho kaming mabagal magtext. Lowtech. Minsan ‘pag magtetext ako, let’s say papunta siya bibisita, magtextext ako. Sa tagal kong magtext, nakarating na siya sa bahay namin bago ko matapos ang text. Mga lowtech talaga. Tapos malabo pa ang mata. So there was this one time, sabi namin, teka nga pinapahirapan natin text pa tayo ng text, magtawagan na lang kaya tayo sa telepono. So tinawagan niya ako sa phone, oh wala kaming masabi sa isa’t-isa. Nagkahiyaan. Siguro mas madaling magsaad ng nararamdaman kapag sa text kasi ‘di mo nga kaharap ‘yung kausap mo,” she stated.
While she is a fan of high technology, she also has something to say people who misuse its powerful role in society today.
“But probably that’s one goal. ‘Yun ‘yung advantage kasi ‘di mo nga kaharap ‘yung kung kausap mo. But probably that’s one good advantage. Kung minsan itong social media, nalalampasan good use nito kasi magaling. Maganda ang social media. It makes the global village smaller. Nagiging more intimate, nagiging immediate ang communication. But as in any good thing, it can be misused, it can be abused, it can be misplaced. At dito nga ipinapakita sa pelikulang ito na kung paano maaiiwasan ‘yun,”
Atty. King was a former classmate of Boots’s deceased husband Pete Roa. Meanwhile, the latter has always been good friends with the former's sisters.
Boots Anson-Roa is part of the Jun Robles-Lana-directed film Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi which stars Sue Ramirez, Markus Paterson, and Jameson Blake.
