The “Demonyo” singer also said that he makes music not for awards but rather for the “sake of artistry.”
The Voice Kids alum JK Labajo, who now goes by the name Juan Karlos, was named the big winner at this year’s MOR Pinoy Music Awards. Bagging the Album of the Year Award for his sophomore album JKL and OPM Revival of the Year Award for A Love To Last’s theme “Beautiful Girl,” Juan Karlos admitted that he already lost excitement when it comes to getting recognition in music awards.
“Ang dami ko nang awards na pinupuntahan - mga awards night and all of that. Nawalan na ako ng excitement. Kumbaga, nawalan na ako ng pag-asa, before pa. So ngayon na nanalo ako, sobrang unexpected na parang ‘oh, cool alright’,” the 17-year-old singer said.
Though he feels grateful for the recognition he has received at the MOR Pinoy Music Awards 2018, Juan Karlos reiterated that he doesn't make music for awards but rather for self-expression.
“No, kasi I make music, not for awards. I make music for the sake of artistry. So I don’t really depend on awards na ‘uy nanalo ako ng award, ah sige gawa pa ako ng kanta para mas manalo pa ako ng award’ kasi for me it doesn’t matter. I appreciate awards this and that, but it’s not really like the top of the line ‘uy sana manalo ako ng award’. Motivation siguro,” he stated.
When asked what he has in store for his fans now that he has formed a band of his own, Juan Karlos said that the music will be more of him, “OPM. Musikang gawa ng Pilipino, para sa Pilipino.”
