“It’s important for every woman or girl to have a father figure in her life,” shared KC Concepcion. KC grew up away from her biological dad, Gabby Concepcion, but under the guidance of her stepdad, Kiko Pangilinan. She has come to realize that a woman’s relationship with her father, or father figure, has an effect on her relationship with other men. “Sa totoo lang, naaapektuhan ‘yung love life ng mga girls depende sa relationship nila sa father nila. Kung okay kayo o hindi ng parents ninyo, or relationship ninyo with your father, it affects your choice when it comes to the men in your life.”
And how is KC’s relationship with the men in her life? Last Father’s Day, netizens were happy to see KC’s heartwarming messages for both Gabby and Kiko.
While her relationships with both had its turbulent times, KC appreciated how her fathers have become more dedicated to being dads, in every sense of the word. “Ngayon na older na ako and my fathers are really doing their best to make up for lost time, na-aappreciate ko.” While she doesn’t discount that the past was far from ideal, she chose to focus on the now. “Kasi hindi naman maganda to look at the past lagi and to be angry sa nangyari dati. It’s nice to see kung ano ba ‘yung mga effort ng mga tao ngayon, para hindi ka maging bitter.”
Yet, the person she really acknowledges, even on Father’s Day, is her mother. “I want to acknowledge my mom, kasi mom ko talaga ‘yung kasama ko even noong wala pa akong stepdad and hindi ko nakakasama ‘yung papa ko.” She looks up to her mom, Sharon Cuneta, and her grandmother, the late Elaine Gamboa-Cuneta, and credits them for raising her. “’Yung mom ko talaga and lola ko ‘yung kasama ko growing up. My mom, siya ‘yung naging daddy and mommy to me at the same time.”
Everything that she has become, KC credits to the family who surround her with love, care, and support. She recently launched Avec Moi, a jewelry line, and she has more projects lined up. “I’m launching a beauty line first week of July. It’s my first beauty collab,” she revealed. “Pagdating sa movies, we’re still talking. Pero meron akong dream director, si Direk Irene (Villamor). But we’ll see.”
With her many accomplishments, it is no wonder that she was one of those who spoke for women’s empowerment during the recent event by Shopee. The event was a celebration of women and their commitment to empower Filipinas across the country. After all the things credited to her name, what would KC want her legacy to be? “I want to simply be someone who is able to make another person’s life better, just by being part of their life.”
