EXCLUSIVE: Nene Tamayo reveals real reason why she joined Pinoy Big Brother

It’s hard to believe it’s been 13 years since a contestant known as “Kumander Nene” was dubbed the first season winner of Pinoy Big Brother. But Nene Tamayo admitted it was her passion for business that got her to audition for the hit reality show in the first place. Sabi ko sasali ako sa PBB para just in case na sinuwerte at nakuha ko yung premyo, meron akong pangnegosyo,” she told PUSH during the Skechers Sandals spa party event.

After leaving the show, Nene said she made a profit out of the gifts she received as part of PBB by joining bazaars from 2006 to 2011.

But it was only until she decided to venture into a food business that she really found her niche. “Kasi meron akong business na nalugi so sabi ko, siguro it’s not for me. Para kahit any time na gusto mo kumain puwede mo iluto.’ Tapos ayun pinag-aralan kong gawin. Mula nun, nagpa-try din ako sa mga friends namin tapos sabi nila, ‘Uy masarap, magluto ka for Christmas giveaways,’ nung 2010 yun,” she said. Repeat orders the following month helped strengthen her decision to finally launch Nene Prime Foods as a serious business.

Nene admitted she also made the special healthier recipe that improved on the original one she first tasted in the province. Kaya kinailangan kong baguhin yung recipe. Eh mahilig ako sa herbs and spices so ayun nag-imbento ako, experiment.
