After being part of the first Pinoy duo to win in the YouTube original series Best Cover Ever last December, 20-year-old singer and YouTube artist Lesha Litonjua talked about her experience on the show and her performance with Joe Jonas. “I’ve been in music ever since I was little. I started off with singing then I learned how to play the guitar. But when I got into college I started learning electronic music production because I felt that not everyone my age was doing it at that time. I wanted to be different. I always liked being unique with my music. So from there I wrote songs with it and I started releasing it then I got on YouTube then I started posting song covers that were electronically produced. So people found that really unique and started subscribing to my channel and I started to grow from there,” she shared during the Skechers X Camila event held last April 8 in Quezon City.

The show was hosted by Grammy Award-winning hip-hop artist Ludacris and produced by Ryan Seacrest. During that season, Joe Jonas and his group DNCE were tasked with searching for the next big artist to break out internationally. Lesha and her old college friend Leo Malli (ELM) were the only Asians to make it to the final round abroad. “Me and my collaborator Elm we were able to fly out to Los Angeles to compete. We competed against one more finalist from America and then we won against him so we got the chance to collaborate with Joe Jonas and then after that we were surprised with a trip to Ibiza and master classes in electronic production,” she shared.

Lesha admitted it was a surreal experience to sing with Joe Jonas. “I didn’t expect that we would be right in front of Joe Jonas, performing with him on stage, getting to talk to him, getting to know the band, knowing what it’s like to perform with actual Hollywood professionals. It was really fun and we learned so much from how we present ourselves on stage. He’s really cool. The whole band was really fun to work with,” she shared.

With music influences like Taylor Swift, Marion Hill, Kimbra, and Duo Lipa, Lesha said she is open to collaborating with local artists who are also into electronic music production like James Reid. “Locally, James Reid. I actually admire James Reid when he performs live. I actually love the direction of James Reid right now. He’s really good at that electronic field right now. And I admire his style. It’s really cool,” she said.

With her music available on YouTube and Spotify, Lesha said her EP is also coming out soon. “It’s very indie pa. Not everyone knows about electronic music production here. It’s more prominent in the states. But I’m seeing it starting to grow with James Reid and Nadine Lustre, they’re the ones making it grow here actually. I admit YouTube helped me so much. It actually helped me get over being bullied in high school. Because I was bullied in high school I had no outlet of creativity. So what I did was I went home and made songs and I would post them on social media. Then form there I grew a following and got my security,” she explained.
