Director Cathy Garcia Molina on criticizing Pia Wurtzbach: 'Honest lang naman ako'
The Star Cinema director admits she only wants to bring out the best in her actors.
After announcing her retirement in the second half of next year, director Cathy Garcia-Molina admits that her latest project "My Perfect You" will be the first of her last five films with Star Cinema. She recalls being frank during her first meeting with lead actress and former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach at their story conference.
For the role of bubbly resort owner Abby, direk Cathy wanted to separate Pia’s association with Miss Universe which was accepted by the beauty queen while on set.
Sabi ko I will never see Miss Universe on my set and in fairness to Pia siyempre Miss Universe yan, pero ni entourage ni Pia wala kang mararamdamang ganun. In fact ako yung nagagalit, ‘Alagaan niyo kaya itong Ms. Universe!’ kasi sugat, sugat na siya, sa mga eksena hindi nagrereklamo,” she revealed.
After shooting, the "My Perfect You" director said she was impressed by Pia’s performance. “I will not call it kakaiba because wala akong pinanggagalingang comparison. Meron siyang parang aria, aria dun. And true enough, with flying colors. Tapos to top all that mabuti siyang tao,” she said.
