Aiko Melendez’s return in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) this year was certainly not a wasted effort after she recently won Best Supporting Actress for her incredible performance in Rainbow’s Sunset.
On Instagram last Friday, the seasoned actress extended her gratitude towards the MMFF committee, spearheaded by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), for giving her the special recognition.
“Maraming salamat po sa MMFF and MMDA jurors para sa parangal na ito. Ang tagal ko pong walang entry sa MMFF and this is indeed a great comeback for me, and a great way to end 2018! Thank you, Lord Jesus, for this wonderful gift,” said Aiko.
Aside from the committee, the 43-year-old star also thanked her team, as well as her best support system—her dear children Andre and Marthena, and beau, Subic Mayor Jay Khonghun, who are her major inspirations in life.
“To my family, I share this recognition to all of you! My kids [Andre Yllana] and [Marthena Jickain], I share this to you both! You are my inspiration.
“To my ever supportive boyfriend, [Jay]... thank you! You are my number one critic and my number one fan. Our partnership is indeed a lucky one. So many good things happening. God has blessed me with you and my kids! I will definitely keep you guys in my heart! Etched for the rest of my life. You are all my Rainbow’s Sunset!,” said Aiko.
Rainbow’s Sunset dominated the MMFF this year for having bagged the most number of recognitions, including the coveted Best Actress award for Gloria Romero, Best Supporting Actor for Tony Mabesa, Best Director for Joel Lamangan, and a nomination for Best Actor for Eddie Garcia.
The film also received Best Picture Best Screen Play, Best Production Design, Best Original Theme Song, and, last but not the least, the special Gat. Antonio J. Villegas Cultural award.
Rainbow’s Sunset, which has premiered on December 25, is still currently showing in cinemas nationwide.
