As the crowd goes into a frenzy with Catriona Gray’s win, commentators of the 2018 Miss Universe Carson Kressley and Lu Cierra went live backstage to discuss their excitement for the new reigning beauty queen.
“Noticing her evening gown, she was true to herself. That dress was very, very different. And when you know your style, and you know you, then that’s being unique. And [she should enjoy] this year – networking, meeting people, traveling the world. Live in the moment,” said Lu of the newly crowned Filipina.
On the other hand, Carson advised Catriona to try make every second of her term as Miss Universe 2018 last.
“Have fun, keep a journal. I think anything like this, if it happens to you, it’s such a life-changing moment. It’s a whirlwind, and every day you’re doing something new and exciting.”
Meanwhile, Catriona is still on a high from her victory this Friday in Bangkok, Thailand, where hundreds of Filipinos gathered to witness her crowning moment.
“Wow. It’s like you second guess yourself. It’s like, ‘Did they say Philippines?’ But when you hear the crowd, and they’re… of course, so many Filipinos are so passionate and they’re all here. And to hear the roar of the crowd, and say, ‘Oh, it’s me!’ It’s just so fast! I haven’t even wrapped my mind around it!,” confessed the 24-year-old.
Of her stunning looks for the pageant, Catriona put the spotlight on her famed Philippines-inspired ear cuff, which she debuted in the 2018 Binibining Pilipinas last March.
“Well, for my coronation look, I do have an ear cuff inspired by the Philippines’ sun and stars. That was my inspiration to do a side-swept look. In Prelims, I sported sleek and straight, and it works for the twirls and the flips on stage. Throughout the competition, [I] just played it with different looks,” said Catriona.
Now that she’s officially succeeded Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa as the new titleholder, Catriona shared that the first thing she wishes to do is to thank her supporters, particularly her family and her glam team.
“I just want to hug my parents. I just saw them in the back there. I just want to give them a big hug. And see my team, and just say ‘thank you’, because I couldn’t have done this without so many different people, so many different effort and time with different people. And I just want to say thank you to them, first of all.”
When it comes to her Filipino fans, the Filipina-Australian, who hails from Bicol, said that she’s happy to bring home the crown as a present to her people this upcoming Christmas.
“Sa lahat ng Filipino and all the fans, thank you so much for all the love and support thus far. And wow, mga kababayan, I’m so happy to give you the best Christmas gift ever,” finished Catriona.
