She may have failed to get past the Top 10, but Miss Costa Rica Natalia Carvajal had her own moment in this year’s Miss Universe following her onstage interview with Emmy-award winning host, Steve Harvey.
Given that Natalia also works as a television host back in her home country, Steve asked the beauty queen if there’s any tip she could give him “from one host to another” – a question he would instantly regret even mentioning shortly afterwards.
Natalia then motioned for Steve to come closer, and said almost in a whisper, “I think that you're doing good, the outfit is fine. but I have one advice. If they try to give you a really, really, really important envelope, try to read it carefully, okay?”
As if on cue, the audience roared with laughter, while Steve seemed to have struggled making a comeback.
“You all thought that was funny,” said the Family Feud host finally, before faking a laugh. “You all just won’t let it go.”
Natalia’s punch line was in connection with Steve's controversial faux pas in 2015, wherein instead of Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach, he announced the name of Miss Colombia Adriana Gutierrez as winner of the Miss Universe by mistake.
Despite the slip, however, Steve still got to host the pageant for the following years, but not without being constantly reminded of the boo-boo.
Meanwhile, the 2018 Miss Universe, held this Monday in Bangkok, Thailand, concluded with Philippines’ bet Catriona Gray bringing home the crown, officially succeeding Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa as the new reigning queen.
