After sharing that he was shooting his Metro Manila Film Festival entry One Great Love during his last few days of his cancer-stricken mom Merlie, Marlo Mortel admitted that is one big reason he will never forget working on the Regal Films project. “Well of course hindi mawawala yung memory na yun dahil talagang last day na yun ng mommy ko before she passed away nung nagpunta ako sa shooting. Pero parang eye-opener rin siya para sa akin and because nagpunta ako dun may mga nag-comfort din sa akin so medyo na-relieve ako ng slight and na-realize ko na baka nahihirapan na talaga siya so it’s bittersweet. And I know naman she wanted me to be there,” he explained to PUSH.

Marlo said his mom would have wanted to see him build a future with the right partner someday. “Hindi naman niya ako minadali. Alam naman niya na bata pa ako for that. Pero excited sana siya na gusto pa niya ako makita na magka-family, magkaroon ng apo. Gusto niya yun talaga. Pero hindi na niya naabutan kaya siguro in the next few years tutuparin ko yung wish niya,” he said.

The qualities he would look for in a woman who would have to live up to his mom is simple according to Marlon. “Siguro number one is understanding. Kasi kung hindi kaming dalawa mag-iintindihan with our differences, hindi kami magkakasundo, And of course mabait. Ang pinaka-importante mabait and loyal (laughs). Siguro dun naman talaga. Dapat loyal siya sayo para hindi kayo magkaroon ng problema,” he added.

For Christmas this year, the 25-year-old singer-actor admitted it will be very different for him without the presence of one parent. “Mag-se-spend ako ng time sa side ng dad ko sa Christmas and then sa New Year sa side naman ng mommy ko. It’s different kasi kahit madami naman kami sa family, never naman ako nag-celebrate ng pasko na wala siya. As in never in my life. As in every single year kasama ko siya. Siguro yung dad ko puwedeng wala, nasa abroad siya. Pero mommy ko kasama ko every year so it’s going to be tough remembering na andiyan siya dapat talaga,” he explained.
