Everyone was enthralled by Catriona Gray in an intricate gown made by Mark Tumang during the preliminaries night of Miss Universe held in Bangkok, Thailand last Thursday.
In an Instagram post, the Philippines’ bet described the creation, inspired by eponymous magical bird Ibong Adarna from Philippine folklore, as “a fitting symbol of resilience, rising, and rebirth”.

However, it appears that it wasn’t only Catriona who wore the Filipino pride on her sleeve that night. According to Preview, the glittering evening portion saw a fest of Philippine fashion through the creations wore by other contestants, starting with Miss Cana Marta Magdalena Stepien’s crystal-entrusted, waist-cinching piece by Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco.
Miss Ecuador Virgina Limongi, meanwhile, looked flattering in a signature Mark Bumgarner gown.
House of Bea Bianca, a fashion designer from Caloocan, expertly tailored a fringe-adorned see-through dress for Miss Nepal Manita Devkota.
Miss Kenya Wabaiya Kariuki looked regal in a white, body-hugging sheer gown by Jian Asala.
Joel Escober, who has previously created an elegant fabric gown for Miss Japan 2008 earlier this month, executed a piece of the same effect for the country’s bet this year, Miss Japan Yuumi Kato.
Last but not the least is Miss New Zealand Estelle Curd, who dazzled in a fiery red halter gown designed by Sidney Eculla of IloIlo City.
