Over the weekend, the stars of the film Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap took to social media to reveal that they were saddened by the fact that they were having a hard time getting cinema slots.
Paolo Contis, who is one of the stars of the said film explained and said, “According to them, the movie is sending a bad connotation to the public because of its title (when our only intention is to entertain our audience and give a good laugh for less than 2 hours). This is our own way of making it light for the Filipino people. ‘We think what you’re doing is the REAL HOLDAP.'”
Isang malungkot na araw! “Ang Pangarap kong Holdap” cannot get cinema slots. According to them, the movie is sending a bad connotation to the public because of its title (when our only intention is to entertain our audience and give a good laugh for less than 2 hours). This is our own way of making it light for the Filipino people. We think what you're doing is the REAL HOLDAP. #SupportFilipinoFilms #SarilingAtin
Paolo’s co-star Pepe Herrera also shared his opinion about the issue on his Instagram account.
“They say the movie is sending a bad connotation to the public. I understand the concern. Sort of. But times are changing. The audience is evolving. Mas matalino at mas mapanuri,” he said.
Pepe reiterated that their sole purpose was to entertain the moviegoers. He then requested the cinema owners to give their movie a chance.
“Kaya pakiusap, cinema owners, let us entertain the people. I assure you, the crime rate in the Philippines will not rise because of our film. Baka nga bumaba pa. hehe. Kasi pangontra naman sa kahit anong masama ang pagtawa. Kaya sige na. Papasukin niyo na kami sa mga sinehan niyo. Pag ginawa niyo yun, panalo lahat tayo,” he said.
This led the supporters of the film to make an appeal online to let the movie be shown in cinemas. Yesterday, November 27, Pepe, along with his co-stars shared the good news and said that they were able to get cinema slots.
“We did it! Maraming salamat sa tulong niyo. Pinagbuksan na tayo ng pinto,” Pepe said.
“Planning our next illegal title!!” Paolo joked.
The movie, which premieres today, November 28 will be shown in Greenhills Theater Mall, Fishermall Malabon, Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall, Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas, Gaisano Tagum, Gaisano Davao, Gaisano GenSan, and select SM Cinemas
The film also stars Pen Medina, Jelson Bay, Rino Marco, Kate Alejandro, Lucky Blanco, and Yussef Esteves.
