Aside from acting, Pepe Herrera’s passion is protecting the environment through keeping the oceans clean in the best way he knows how—by collecting garbage. Apparently, this is what he has been up to these days, proudly and smartly making use of his time when not doing acting projects.

“It felt really good again,” reflected the former Ang Probinsyano star, who prided himself as a garbage collector, in a Facebook post uploaded Thursday, November 15.

“Pero aaminin ko, I still get affected by reactions of people who don’t take what I do seriously. Mula nung simulan ko magpulot ng basura sa kahit anong dalampasigan na madaanan ko, I have seen sarcastic facial reactions and remarks from people that for me seemed like a way of saying, ‘You’re wasting your time and making a fool out of yourself,’” wrote Pepe, who admitted that he feels somewhat annoyed whenever others would be skeptical of his endeavor.

But more than anything, this motivates Pepe to continue working towards a waste-free world that he has since dreamed of, one small step a time. “But that doesn’t mean I’m stopping. I’m way far from stopping. This is a lifelong commitment and I’m just getting started. You see, I don’t aim to collect all the trash by myself. Whenever I collect garbage, my aim is to encourage others (tourists and locals) to do the same. In a non-forceful manner. Kahit isa lang ang gumaya masaya na ako.”
