EXCLUSIVE: Volleyball player Jon Vic De Guzman returns to acting in ‘Class of 2018’

It’s been almost two years since his acting debut in the Erik Matti’s horror film Seklusyon, but Jon Vic De Guzman said he had no regrets about the gap in his career. “Kasi way back in 2016 right after nung Seklusyon sa Metro Manila Film Festival may mga nag-offer na din for teleserye pero I was still studying at that time and meron pa akong one more playing year and responsibility for the College of St. Benilde. Siyempre kailangan i-give back so sa kanila lahat ng binigay nila sa akin as a student athlete and as a scholar. Worth it naman at that time kasi nakuha namin yung historical championship namin sa NCAA which was 20 years in the making,” he told PUSH.

Currently the Philippine Men’s National Volleyball team captain, Jon Vic said he finally has time to get back to acting in T-Rex Entertainment’s suspense thriller Class of 2018. “Ako dito si Jamir, ako yung pinaka-bully dito sa mga lalake since malaki talaga ako. Mas masaya ako ngayon kasi at that time iniisip ko yung paglalaro sa team tapos team captain pa ako then yung responsiblity ko sa academics medyo mahirap. Unlike now, dalawa na lang ang pinoproblema ko, yung paglalaro kasi under ako ng PLDT and currently team captain ako ng national team. Tapos now I’m acting na so kahit papaano mas lumuwag yung schedule ko,” he explained.

Jon Vic said he believes the timing is right for him to try acting again. “I think it just so happened na eto lang talaga for now yung plan ni God para sa akin. Na bago ako mag-try ng iba dito muna ako. Pero open naman ako sa ibang roles na kahit love team yan or action. Ang tanging dala dala ko sa sarili ko is time management talaga. So kung paano mo i-balance yung everything. Kung committed ka sa isang bagay kailangan committed ka diyan, kumbaga yung balance nila, yung percentage hindi mas mataas yung sa isa. Kailangan balanced na balanced,” he said.

The 23-year-old actor and athlete said he looks up to Robin Padilla when it comes to doing action while he looks up to John Lloyd Cruz and Piolo Pascual for drama. “Madaming action yung movie na ito. Actually meron talaga kaming training para hindi magkasakitan. Although nasaktan ako kasi may one time during yung shoot ng action nasuntok ako sa mukha. Pero for me wala naman yun, kasama naman yun sa trabaho,” he said.
