EXCLUSIVE: CJ Navato on studying culinary arts: ‘I really want to be a chef’

As part of the teen suspense thriller Class of 2018, CJ Navato plays a nerd in a cast that includes his fellow Goin’ Bulilit alumni Kristel Fulgar, Kiray Celis, Nash Aguas, and Sharlene San Pedro. “Ako dito si Migs, I’m a conspiracy theorist, medyo geeky geeky. May iniisip ako lagi na puwede mangyari. Sobrang saya sa set. Puro tawanan lang kami. Kahit medyo mabigat yung eksena, okay lang.”

Off camera, CJ said he has been busy focusing on his passion for culinary arts for the past two years now. “I really love cooking. Actually I’m studying culinary arts ngayon. I like working in the kitchen. I’ve been studying it two years now pero medyo unstable yung subjects ko nung una so ngayon pa lang ako medyo nagiging fully loaded sa classes. Actually ang tagal ng path ko to realizing kung ano talaga yung gusto ko gawin sa buhay ko. Nag-loook back pa ako sa past ko kung ano ginagawa ko, yung mga simula bata ako. Naalala ko yung sinasabi ng lola ko na, ‘You don’t overcook the egg, you can eat it malasado,” he shared.

The Class of 2018 actor said he was happy to find something he loved aside from acting. “Ang tagal ko na-realize kasi simula bata ako naging artista na ako so hindi ko alam yung gusto ko gawin talaga in the future until nagka-soul searching din talaga. I really want to be a chef. Naging mahilig din ako kasi nanunuod ako ng mga Master Chef, yung mga ganung cooking shows,” he said. For special occasions, CJ said he would love to prepare steak for a special date. “I really love steak. I’m a steak person so yun yung pinakagusto kong i-serve pag lulutuin ko para sa isang tao na ayokong ma-disappoint siya, steak talaga,” he added.

After playing light roles through the years, CJ said he is ready to do more heavy acting. “Siguro yung mga hard roles yung drama. Kasi usually ang role ko lang is very light, it’s comedy. So I don’t think it’s that hard naman. Siguro kapag sobrang tame nung role, yun yung mahirap sa akin kasi I’m a very lively person. So yun yung medyo hard for me. Pero wala pa naman akong na-e-experience na sobrang hard na role,” he explained.
