It’s been months since Janella Salvador and Elmo Magalona have kept mum about the rumors regarding an altercation but the actress has had enough and decided to tell her side of story.

In an interview with the Inquirer, she first clarified that she is not doing this to badmouth Elmo. Janella said that they first tried to resolve their issue with Star Magic, their management but Elmo still did not ‘own up to his mistakes.’

“I don’t like [the perception] that there was a cover-up. He was being stopped from owning up to his mistake,” she said.

According to Janella, what happened was Elmo hit her twice already. She gave him a chance and forgave him after the first time he laid a hand on her because she still “cared for him.” But then the second time happened when they got into a fight after attending a party.

Janella admitted that they had a few drinks but she wasn’t “drunk nor wasted that time.”

“I felt disrespected … I slapped him,” she recounted.

She then said that she is speaking up in the hopes that other women like her wouldn't experience this.

“My real purpose for talking about it is so that other young people would learn from my experience,” Janella said.

“Even the most intelligent and respected women can be battered. No one is spared. And it’s never the fault of the abused; it’s the abuser who should be blamed,” she added.

She also admitted that she is currently seeking help from a psychologist after this incident.

“Girls and boys need to know that it’s normal to have problems, to have mental health issues—especially with … exposure to social media, with bashing and bullying. Victim-blaming is very rampant.

“People should not be afraid to open up and seek professional help. It will help you a lot. It will help you understand yourself more and see life in a [positive] light.”

Janella then said that she isn't ready to work with Elmo again.

“We built something beautiful—our friendship, our relationship—but some beautiful things need to come to an end.”

The young star also shared that she has reconnected with both her parents, Juan Miguel Salvador and Jenine Desiderio, and is very thankful for their support.

Janella and Elmo first worked together in the now defunct TV series Born For You.
