With the movie Mamu (and a Mother Too) part of the nine full-length entries in this year’s recently concluded Cinema One Originals lineup, the film was an interesting addition with its story about a transgender sex worker whose only aspiration was to get breast implants until the unexpected arrival of her orphaned niece.

Not surprisingly, it not only bagged the Audience Choice Award but the Best Actress trophy as well, making its star Iyah Mina, the first transgender actress in Philippine history to get such an award. Mamu is also Iyah’s big screen debut.
