Crowned Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2018 Alyssa Mulach Alvarez gave her opinion on the issue of transgenders joining beauty pageants. "First I think it's up to the organization whether if they will allow this change or not," Alyssa said in an with the press conference last October 18.

The 22-year old beauty queen added that she sees no problem with it.
"And second, actually I think we need to consider the fact that these transgenders, they actually identify themselves as women. So ipaglalaban po nila na babae po talaga sila. So I think that if the organization allows that, and if they will finally accept the fact that these transgenders are women, then its actually a step forward rather than a step backward."
Representing the Philippines in an international pageant, Alyssa also shared that she had transgender friends and that she knows that we need to accept these kind of changes in these modern times. ""I have friends who are transgenders, mahal na mahal ko po sila and I know po talaga na we need to accept this change, and we need to accept the fact that this is the modern era. We need to accept these changes."

Few months ago, the issue of accepting the transgenders to beauty pageants became a hot topic online, after transwoman Angela Ponce was crowned as Miss Universe Spain 2018 and is now part of Miss Universe's official candidates.
In the same interview, Alyssa also reacted on the common judgement that Pinay beauty queens do not look like 'real Filipinas.' "I think that these people need to realize that Filipinos are really a mix of multiple races. We're colonized by multiple nations, from the Spaniards to Americans, to Japanese and aside from colonizers there are also those who went here for business, there are Chinese who went here for trade.
"So we need to learn the history of the Philippines in order to realize the fact that were really a mixture of different races. And we need to accept the fact there is really a diversity here in the Philippines. And I think that's a beautiful thing rather than something we should complain about." she said.
According to Alyssa, she is confident that she can represent the Philippines well, for she was born and raised here and can speak Tagalog fluently. "Kasi ako po talaga, pinanganak ako dito. I was raised in the Philippines, so 'pag kinausap mo talaga ako, marunong akong mag-Tagalog, so ipaglalaban kong I can represent the Philippines very well. Although I don't look like pure Pinay." she explained.
Coming from a family of celebrities, Alyssa began her career in showbiz as a singer when she was 15 years old. She will soon be spending her time preparing in New York with her team for the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant, which will happen in Bolivia on November 3.
