Star Magic announced its top 20 finalists for its Lights, Camera, Magic (LCM) short film competition on Sunday, October 14. From 220 entries, LCM chose 20 movies that would advance to the next round. The entries were judged based on originality, creative and technical execution and impact. The screening committee was composed of Piolo Pascual, Nash Aguas, Khalil Ramos, Janus del Prado, Ketchup Eusebio, Renee Dominique and Star Magic’s very own, Johnny Manahan.

The top 20 videos are “Ako,” “Anino,” “Antipara,” “Best Friends,” “Contrition As A Forceful Act,” “Hello, DJ Eros?” “Hello Nanay,” “Isang Gabi Lang ‘Yon,” “Karamay,” “Kasarinlan,” “Liwanag,” “Malampasan Mo Sana Ang Sakit,” “Napano Ka, Arna?” “Ngawa,” “Oh, Aking Katoto,” “Pala’u” “Plot Twist,” “Static,” “Viral Kids,” and “Walang Mali.”

From the 20 finalists, the final three will be chosen via online voting and by the LCM jury. The jury will be composed of Leo Katigbak, Head of ABS-CBN’s Special Projects and Film Restoration, Ronald Arguelles, head of Channel Management—Cinema One and Velvet channels, and Ice Idanan, independent film director of “Sakaling Hindi Makarating,” “Ania ‘ti nagan mo” and “Limang Libo.”

LCM mentors and directors JP Habac (“I’m Drunk I Love You,” “Maria” and “Oktopus” upcoming movies “Sakaling Maging Tayo”), Victor Villanueva (“Patay Na Si Hesus,” “Kusina Kings,” “Ang Nanay Ni Justin Barber” and “Abot-kamay”) and Mikhail Red (“Birdshot,” “Neomanila,” and “Rekorder” upcoming movies “Eerie” and “Block Z”) will also be part of the jury.

Voting for the three finalists started on October 14 at lightscameramagic.ph.

The three finalists will be receiving P50,000 in cash and will have the chance to develop their submitted entries into a 15-minute short video. They will be mentored by one of the acclaimed directors and Star Magic artists will be part of their short films.
