New Star Music artist Brian Gazmen releases his first single ‘Ayoko Nang Makarinig ng Love Song’ on January 26.
At just 17 years old, new Star Music artist Brian Gazmen said his theater roots helped prepare him for his entrance into showbiz this year. “Since 2010 nag-theater talaga ako, I started with Trumpets sa Hairspray (the musical). Dun ko nalaman na gusto ko umarte at maging singer at the same time. Nanggaling din ako sa scratch na nag-audition ako na na-ri-reject ako. At least napagdaanan ko yung step by step,” he shared during his solo presscon held last January 22 at Novotel hotel in Quezon City.
Brian said he went on a strict diet before he decided he was ready to enter showbiz. “Mataba ako nun eh alam ko sa showbiz kailangan payat so nagdisiplina talaga ako na mag-diet talaga. I started 85 kilograms tapos 62 na ngayon. I didn’t eat rice for three years. Hanggang ngayon hindi ako kumakain ng rice. Puro chicken and fish lang. Sobrang taba ko talaga dati 85 kilograms ako. But then I started working out when I was 15 years old,” he recalled.
The aspiring singer and actor said he prepared by joining numerous workshops with Ogie Diaz which eventually led to exposure on TV and in film in projects like Ipaglaban Mo, La Luna Sangre, Seven Sundays, Love You to the Stars and Back. Brian admitted he would love to get the chance to collaborate someday with artists like Sarah Geronimo and Inigo Pascual. But he admits his music has been influenced mainly by one OPM artist since day one. “Since nine years old ako, na-influence ako kay Gary V. kasi never kami naka-miss ng concert ni Gary V. Tapos yung mga crooners like si Michael Buble and John Legend rin,” he said.
Currently on his last year at the Ateneo high school, Brian said he has decided to balance getting a Business Management degree and working on his singing career. “Ang goal ko gusto ko maging inspiration sa mga millennial ngayon. Kasi di ba pag naka-focus sila sa isang bagay ngayon napapabayaan nila ang pag-aaral? Gusto ko maging inspiration na kahit ginagawa mo yung gusto mo, hindi mo napapabayaan yung pag-aaral mo,” he shared.
With his first single “Ayoko Nang Makakita ng love Song” set to be launched on January 26, Brian hopes millennials will be able to appreciate his music. “Gusto ko talaga ng millennial breakup song na upbeat at kakaiba. Kasi I broke the rule that if you sing a breakup song, kailangan laging senti na mababa. Ginawa ko siyang upbeat para may pag-asa sa mga millennial kasi pag nabibigo sila, end of world na sa kanila, naiiyak na sila. At least gagaan ang loob nila, mas go on with life lang. Masaya pa rin dapat. Kahit na may breakup, at least there’s many fish in the sea. Kasi malaki talaga ang influence ng emotion sa tao, kung anong na-ko-convey ng words from the music, parang nakaka-comfort din sa pakiramdam,” he explained.
Another one of his goals in showbiz is to get the chance to become a housemate in Pinoy Big Brother. “Ang dream ko talaga gusto ko mag-audition sa PBB kasi gusto ko matuto maging independent tapos siyempre ang mga millennial ngayon hindi nila kaya na walang phone. Gusto ko walang phone,” he says.
