I grew up in Calgary, Canada, I was born and raised there pero I would always visit the Philippines every other year to visit my grand parents in Bicol, Albay,” kuwento ng dalaga sa PUSH.
Six years old si Annie nu’ng nagkainteres kumanta sa church nang mapanood ang Sister Act movie. Classically-trained for piano and voice din siya.
“The producers there in Calgary started to get me for front act for bigger shows. When they come to Calgary, they would usually ask me to sing as front act for Wency Cornejo, True Faith, Lolita Carbon, Joey Albert, David Pomeranz, and Sarah Geronimo.
“Sarah Geronimo was the big one kasi when I sing for Sarah Geronimo, that was also when I started singing my originals to a crowd.
“I really love her performances and her voice. I think she is definitely the Philippines queen of pop right now. I really admire how kind she is. She was really nice when I met her,” tuluy-tuloy pa niyang kuwento.
“This is just a theory lang, ha, and I don’t know if it’s true, pero when he left Canada that’s when I started getting gigs. He was really in demand, when he left kasi to join The Voice here, that was when there was no more singers, I guess (laughs),” she revealed.
Dagdag pa niya, “There were a lot of singers but they were all older na. So, I owe him a lot. I was in the right place at the right time lang, parang ganun.”
Kasalukuyang nag-aaral sa Berklee College of Music in Boston si Annie.
“Right now I’m taking Contemporary Writing and Production. It’s mostly writing, arranging and production,” sabi pa niya.
“If I’m going to be frank, there hasn’t been a Filipino artist who has internationally won a Grammy or who has internationally represented as an artist, represented the Philippines internationally.
“It’s always been half-Filipino artist representing America, parang ganun. And I’m hoping, if I work really hard which I do, I can win the Philippines a Grammy. That’s my goal now,” she said.
