Actress Jessy Mendiola stars in the suspense-thriller movie Salvage, an entry to this year’s Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino to be held in this month.
The movie, where she co-stars with JC De Vera, tells the story of a news team who aims to unravel the mystery behind some killings in a haunted province. She plays the role of a segment producer.
Talking to members of the press during the special screening at the Ayala Vertis North, Jessy, who wants to try different roles, said that her character in the movie is different from all that she has done so far.
“Hindi ako nagpa-cute dito. Hindi ako nakipaghalikan. Hindi ako nagpakita ng balat. Hindi ako nag-technical na kung anumang line. It’s raw and it’s different; probably a bit better that most of my roles,” she said, adding that she did not have a double for this project.
“Every scene, pinag-isipan, lahat ng blockings. Actually, lahat ng sasabihin namin, hindi scripted. Tapos ‘yung ibang elements sa eksena, planted lang. Minsan ‘di namin alam so like gano’n ka-raw t’saka gano’n katotoo ‘yung feelings… ‘Nung fear, ‘nung kaba,” she said, adding that their scenes were not cut. “Once you make a mistake, you start all over again from the top.”
When asked if her boyfriend Luis Manzano already saw the movie, Jessy answered, “Not yet. Gusto ko nga mapanood niya, eh. Sabi niya, ‘Kailan ba showing niyan? Curious ako kung ano ‘yung role mo diyan.’ So kinuwento ko sa kanya lahat lahat. Sabi niya, ‘Wow ah.’”
Speaking of Luis, Jessy shared that he was the first man she introduced to her father. She happily shared that they got along well since they have the same humor and interests.
Jessy also admitted that they would talk about marriage “every day.” “Lagi naming napag-uusapan, umaga hanggang gabi pero alam niya, eh. Alam niyang I’m not ready yet. I have so much to do, I want to do so much and willing to wait naman so I think that’s good.”
When asked who feels more pressured to settle down, Jessy said, “Parang siya. Pero more than the pressure, it’s more of like ‘I’m ready.’ Gano’n siya. He would say sometimes na, ‘I’m ready and I really feel that you are the one.’”
She also referred to her phone to show Luis’s notes for her, thereby showing that he’s “very expressive,” a trait she said she likes about him.
