Lovi Poe reveals why she finally accepted her first comedy role in ‘Woke Up Like This’

Even though she has been in showbiz for more than a decade now, Lovi Poe said she has never really done any comedy before she accepted the role of Sabrina the ramp queen who ends up waking up one day in the body of Lando (played by Vhong Navarro) in Woke Up Like This. “I think ang palaging na-o-offer sa akin ay drama and it’s something that I’m used to doing. I’m very happy because Regal Films gave me the opportunity to work on this kind of film especially with Vhong Navarro pa so I’m really happy to be able to tap into a different kind of genre. I think it was more of lack of opportunity. Whatever comes naman, a certain challenge I’m always up for it. Here’s a new one,” she said during the Woke Up Like This blogcon held last August 10 in Quezon City.Even though she had already played Vhong’s girlfriend in Shake, Rattle & Roll in 2012, Lovi admitted they only started warming up to each other on the set this year. “Super tahimik lang kasi talaga ako pagka sa set. Parang mahiyain ako. I always give the impression of parang medyo intimidating because tahimik lang ako, ganyan. But then pagka na-break mo na yung ice it’s nonstop na,” she explained.In order to play the role of Vhong convincingly, the 28-year-old actress said she had to do some major preparations and research on the actor. “Kailangan ko siyang panuorin and then chineck ko yung mga posts niya kung paano siya. May effort talaga. It’s fun. Actually this is one of the most exciting things that I’ve done kasi nga I had to loosen up and everything. In real life kalog din naman ako with my friends but in front of the camera and in front of people that I’m working with hindi talaga ako ganun. Nahihiya talaga ako. this time it was just like I just had to do it. Buti na lang talaga Vhong was there to support me and take care of me in every scene,” she said.Currently dating a non-showbiz guy, Lovi admitted she is not in touch anymore with ex-boyfriend and actor Rocco Nacino. “We’re okay naman. I have no idea with what’s going on in his life. I’m happy in general with everything that’s going on in my life. I can’t ask for more. Of course may mga days na there are things that we want but then I’m very happy. That’s life. We should just enjoy and live it lang. (About dating a foreigner) I just want to keep things private in terms of that. It’s just that it’s something that I really want naman talaga to keep things to myself,” she added.
