Aside from a contract with Star Music, singer Kaye Cal signed an international recording deal to be written and produced by Grammy-award winning songwriter Brody Brown.
In an interview with PUSH, Kaye narrated how she got the deal.
“Every time na nagsho-show ako, ‘yung mga team Kaye Cal, as in halos lahat sila nakavideo. And then, may kinanta akong song from ‘Damage', ‘yung Forever na song and then nangyari kasi, parang ‘yung magiging co-handler ko na from Pop Life, hinanap niya ‘yung song na Forever sa YouTube at ang first na lumabas ‘yung video ko. So, ‘nung napanood niya ‘yun, tamang tama, meron silang toycon sa Solaire dito sa Manila, hinanap nila ako. And then kinuha nila ako to perform and then after my performance, kinausap nila ako and they asked me if interested ba raw ako magkaroon ng album internationally and to work with ganito, ganyan, (I said) of course.”
According to Kaye, she signed the deal last December 2016. She said she was also given study materials for the album, as well as seven songs, saying that there will be 12 songs in the album. Having submitted a demo to them, she said that she might start recording after her concert this month. Mentioning that she is now working on having a visa to fly abroad, Kaye said, “Either sa L.A. Kung matagalan ‘yung visa, baka sa Hong Kong ako magrecord.
“I hope na maging successful siya siyempre na album. Maging parang Bruno Mars style,” she lightheartedly said given that Brody has worked with Bruno, Adele and Cee Lo Green, among others.
As to whether the album will be available in the Philippines, Kaye is not yet sure because, “Dito, Star Music so depende.”
Kaye, who has popular covers of “Ikaw Lang,” “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana” and “Why Can’t It Be?,” is set to stage her very first concert titled “Kaye Pop” on Friday, August 18 at the Music Museum. Her guest artists include Nyoy Volante, Daryl Ong and Migz Haleco of “Migz and Maya.” She will also have surprise guests.
