After the success of his first show Extra Judicial Kidding earlier this year, top stand up comedian Jon Santos returns to Resorts World Manila in another comic musical Live, Laugh, Love from August 12 to 13. “I feel very, very fortunate to be given the go signal to create art again. The go signal has been given to us and our tropa to treat it like a playground and a laboratory for art. Whatever kind, musicals like Priscilla or political satire like WTF or combination concert and stand up project like this one so it’s very, very encouraging,” he shared during the Live, Laugh, Love presscon held last July 18 in Pasay city.
In Live, Laugh, Love, audiences can expect Jon to introduce new characters on stage like his latest superhero persona Darna Soberano. During the presscon, Jon was in character and even donned the sexy superhero costume which he admitted had its extra challenges.
Apart from spoofing Liza Soberano as Darna, Jon also shared his line up of other characters who might be making appearances in the two-day show like Manny Pacquiao’s mom or Charice’s Jake Zyrus. “Siyempre a little bit of pop culture, a little bit of politics. My show has been described as same day writing or night before writing. Pag sinabi nila na kailangan marinig ng bayan ang gustong sabihin ni Jake Serious kailangan na natin mag-aral mag-vocalize ng ‘Pyramid’ in baritone,” he said.
The Live, Laugh, Love performer said there are pros and cons to playing very popular characters. “I think it’s a season of heroes. In fact after today, I have a fitting for a costume for MananangGal Gadot because she’s a blockbuster hit and a sequel I think will be in the making soon. And I think the country and the world needs the help of heroes right now. It’s so fascinating.
As one of the most veteran comedians in the country, Jon shared the secret to his career longevity. “I think I was always blessed with the basbas of the audiences to try to be anyone no matter how ambitious ke comic superhero or headline grabbing politico or senator. I think when I have permission to morph into who’s who in the headlines at the moment, ang nangyayari they stay interested. So it’s been a nice give and take. They kind of let me have a feel of who they want me to be next and I kind of have permission take off to a direction that is calling me,” he said.
