Nineteen-year-old pop superstar Greyson Chance publicly announced that he is gay through an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday, July 19.
He posted an image of the popular rainbow-inspired LGBT banner and started of the caption, “The decision to write this came after I received a message from a brave individual. Such message inspired me to shed light on an aspect of my private life which I have kept distant from my career in music.”
The singer-songwriter confessed that he already knew that he’s gay at the age of 16, but he decided not to disclose it for his privacy and he was still in the process of dealing with his sexuality. Besides, he also didn’t find the topic “interesting” for others.
In the end, Greyson encouraged everyone to take their time in exploring and unleashing their genuine personas.
“While this message is most definitely overdue, I encourage anyone who is navigating their sexuality to devote as much time as they need to the process of finding self-confidence, self-acceptance, and self-love. Hell, for me, it took years to write this message. Nevertheless, I figured now was the time to let a few more friends know that I am happy, I am here for you, and I am proud of who I am,” he said.
Meanwhile, fans expressed their unwavering love and support to their beloved artist.
Greyson first rose to fame in 2010 through his performance of Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi’ at a sixth-grade music festival that gained millions of views on YouTube and by his guesting on The Ellen DeGeneres Show afterwards.
His famous hits include “Waiting Outside The Lines”, “Sunshine and City Lights”, and “Back on the Wall”.
He held several shows in the Philippines in 2011 and 2016, and even released a song entitled “Thrilla in Manila”.
