“Actually we’ve been preparing for this for quite a long time so I’m very excited and kinda nervous that we’re shooting it now and that we’ve finally started. I think everything is well planned and studied. All the people from production pretty much know what the film is about and what we want to achieve and what we want to show the people,” he shared during the Vitress Kolours Saladbox event held last June 3 in Headway Vera Salon in Sta. Mesa.
Paulo revealed he can relate to the brave young Filipino general, who died in battle at the age of 24.
“The part of him that I could relate to is he was carrying a very big burden at a very young age and I kind of could relate to that in a lot of ways. I also learned some things about him that surprised me. That he was once hit by a bullet in the head one time. He was grazed by a bullet during one of his campaigns,” he told PUSH.
When some netizens commented online saying he is too “pogi” to play the role, Paulo said he is not bothered because it is a non-issue.
“Well, hindi naman too pogi siguro. No it’s not because Gregorio Del Pilar was actually known to be a good looking person and yun nga yung joke about him na may girlfriend siya in every town na nadadaanan niya. There are actually letters na marami ata talaga siyang naging girls,” he remarked.
When asked if he had the same kind of girl problems as his character, Paulo denied the comparison. “Hindi naman. I’m a very loyal person (laugh),” he added.
The Goyong star is also reunited with Heneral Luna director Jerrold Tarrog in the project.
“It’s always a treat to work with direk Jerrold Tarog. This guy is just some crazy person who likes making films and surprising everyone with what he has in store and what he wants to show and he’s a very creative and artistic person. Maybe a unique thing about direk Jerrold is he actually gives his actors a lot of freedom to work around,” he shared.
