Shaina Magdayao’s “SMILE Cares Foundation” has partnered with Dingdong Dantes’ “Yes Pinoy Foundation” to provide supplemental learning opportunities on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) for out-of-school and underprivileged youth. The project called “Yes to Full STEAM Ahead” aims to build an eco-camp on Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte.
Shaina remarked that she wants to utilize her influence to extend a hand to those who are in need in the young sector of the society. “I just want to maximize it while I'm still here in the business and it all started with a small dream and intention to help the children and now ‘yung dream namin ang laki na niya. We are dreaming of putting up an eco-camp in Siargao for all the out-of-school youth,” she said.
Despite her busy schedule, from working on a soap to looking after her foundation, Shaina said that she felt inspired more than ever because of this new project. “This is what makes me feel alive. It gives me this different fulfillment and happiness to be able to help and to be able to serve kasi like what I said, meron talaga akong calling sa service,” she relayed.
Realizing the essence of education through her work in the foundation, Shaina relayed that she is planning to finish her studies soon after she wraps up her soap on the Kapamilya network. “I’m going to make sure that after my show I’m going to go back to my studies and now that we have a foundation lahat kami actually we are all going back to school,” she said.
She relayed that she wants to take up BS in Psychology. “I’ve always wanted to take up BS Pysch kasi nga ‘yung uncle ko is a doctor and gusto ko sana gawin ‘yung pre-med before pero wala eh I started working when I was six so I don’t think I have the luxury to choose. This was all given to me and of course I am accepting it with gratitude and open arms naman and there must be a reason why I am on this field and ayon nakakahanap ako ng bagong purpose why I am in this business,” she stated.
