Alessandra de Rossi admits being reluctant about having a love team

For the first time in her thriving career, Alessandra de Rossi has a love team partner in the person of comedian Empoy Marquez.

The tandem are debuting their fresh chemistry in the big screen project titled, Kita Kita by director Sigrid Bernardo.

Alex, as she is fondly called, claimed that she too was initially shocked when she was offered the project.

“Tawang tawa ako,” she started during their movie’s press conference.

She continued, “Hindi kasi ganito yan, yung producer namin si Lucky, Kid Kulafu palang tsaka Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis, lagi niyang sinasabi nung nasa Sorsogon kami na 21 days kaming nagsho-shoot. Sabi niya ‘Hindi ka talaga pang leading lady eh no?’”

The actress jokingly noted that the reason why she never got into doing such things was because “Leading man kasi ako!’”

She continued to share that her former producer kept on wondering why she never landed that kind of role.

Tinignan niya ako ng matagal, tapos sabi niya ‘Kasi silhouette ka lang Alex eh!’” she shared about her producer and Direk Joyce Bernal’s conversation.

But according to her, it was Direk Joyce who voiced out the real reason: “Kasi hindi niya ginusto!’”

Alex kept on protesting as her former producer prodded her to do such roles and to “take a break” from her usual “no makeup and heavy drama” indie projects.

It was through that idea that her tandem with Empoy, now known as AlEmpoy was formed.

But why Empoy?

Baka magmukhang Maid in Manhattan ang concept,” she said, “Okay ako, at least doctor, tapos pasyente.”

Although they are coming in as new players in the love team field, Alex emphasized a distinct characteristic that only their tandem has.

Such is the premise that they were going for, according to Alex, “No-makeup look, no blower, no veneers, no boob-job, no blonde hair, just the way that I am.”

Catch Kita Kita in cinemas nationwide starting July 19.
