With the launch of her new single “Renegade” last month on It’s Showtime, singer Mica Javier said she is also a renegade in her own right. “I've always been aware of what I want in life, my passions, dreams, and of course what’s right from wrong. I'm definitely my own renegade in a sense where I really do fight for what I want and for what is right whether it's about career, relationships, family, life. And despite the many challenges and obstacles that incessantly come my way, I still stand up strong and keep moving forward positively. I don't ever want to be held back by limiting beliefs and limiting systems,” she shared.
The Girl Trends member has also been in a steady relationship with R&B singer JayR. “It’s been four years and we’ve been thoroughly enjoying life as it comes. JayR knows how to handle a strong and independent woman who has ambitions as well as experience that would overwhelm or intimidate any regular guy. We have open communication, respect for each other as inpiduals, and trust,” she admitted.
Even though her boyfriend is also her producer on his Homeworkz label, Mica said it is no issue in their personal and private lives. “It's not a challenge because we are both artists in our own right. I was a model and recording artist for years both here and in the US before I even met JayR and when you come into a relationship already knowing who you are and what you want, there's no room for competition or jealousy, but rather an abundance of support for each other in wherever our work and careers take us,” she said.
The It’s Showtime performer also said her boyfriend has always been supportive of all her endeavors. “I create all my music with my own pool of producers and resources, and JayR is only there to help out if I need or ask for it. I've always done my own thing and since I met him, he'd always been fully supportive of all the things that interest me and make me happy whether it be in music, my business (fragrance line MNL which is available in Fisher Mall and all American Blvd. stores), and even in acting and other endeavors. He's a passionate and genuine human being, and that definitely translates into work and personal life,” she said.
With her new single, Mica hopes to inspire women to find their inner “renegade.” “Renegade empowers women by reminding them of that natural inner strength and their ability to own their womanhood, which often times can be hindered by society standards and customs. With this song I want women to unapologetically be who they truly are and go for what ever they want in life. There is no box for women, we can be and do anything. We hold up half of the sky,” she explained.
Mica Javier’s album Dreamer is now available in Astrovision, Odyssey, and SM music outlets. You can also download it from iTunes and Spotify.
