Liza Soberano on those who don’t want her to play Darna: ‘I want to prove that I am the rightful one’

During her launch as the new MegaPro Plus MegaSound endorser, Liza Soberano admitted she is happy that people will finally see her as more than just an actress-model. “I’m really very happy to be endorsing a karaoke brand because I actually am very passionate about singing and I want to share that passion with my fans and other people who will be able to see this new brand and I want them to become confident as well. You know just to have fun and sing along with the karaoke. It’s not necessary naman that you’re a professional singer to be singing. Anybody can sing,” she shared during the MegaProPlus presscon held last June 15 in Quezon City.After the announcement last month that she will headline Erik Matti’s take on Darna the movie, Liza said she was not surprised by the mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. “Of course I’m happy. When they first announced, I was very overwhelmed. Of course there are good opinions and there are some who don’t agree but I have to respect all of it, all of those opinions because I can’t control everybody’s mind. If they don’t think I’m the right one to be Darna then so be it. I respect that but l want to prove that I am the rightful one to be Darna, that I can do it and I am trying my best,” she explained.The pretty MegaProPlus celebrity ambassador said even her love team partner Enrique Gil was surprised and happy about her newest project even if it might not include him. “When there was stuff first coming out he didn’t think that it was going to be me because sabi niya baby pa daw ako so imposibleng mag-tu-two piece ako and stuff like that. But then when he found out he was supportive naman and now sinasamahan din niya ako sa pag-wo-workout,” she said.The 19-year-old actress said she would appreciate it if Quen had a cameo in her film. “I would love that. I think it would make a lot of people happy as well if he were in the movie. We don’t actually have a theme song. Wala talaga. We’re not that type of people. Si Quen kasi exotic talaga taste niya in music. He likes EDM,” she added.Despite her first major solo project, Liza said LizQuen fans have nothing to worry about. “No, just like what he did before when he did Dukot but we were still in a love team together. Parang same thing with this. I’m doing Darna but we still have a project aside from that,” she explained.When asked what she thought if Quen would be offered the role of another PInoy superhero, Captain Barbell, Liza immediately lit up at the idea. “That would be good! Bagay siya sa role naman. Malaki ang katawan ni Quen eh (laughs). Puwede siya,” she said.
