Tom Cruise surprised the anchors and viewers of Australian morning TV show Sunrise, when he confirmed that Top Gun 2 has the go signal and will begin filming in 2018. The actor is busy with promotions for his film The Mummy.
“It’s true. It’s true,” he said. “I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. I know. It’s happening. It is definitely happening ... you’re the first people that I’ve said this to,” he revealed.
The 1986 classic film, which helped catapult Cruise to stardom, has been rumored to have a sequel for years but has only finally gotten wind when producer Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted last January that he’s a meeting with the actor.
The original Top Gun also starred Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis.
