051317-MarielDeLeon_PUSH.jpgOn Tonight with Boy Abunda, Binibining Pilipinas International 2017 Mariel de Leon shared how her family influenced her love for music specifically singing.

“I have three older brothers and that’s not counting my other stepbrothers, and one of them is really into metal, the other one is into jazz, and the other one is into classical music. So growing up I was always exposed to that kind of music, and of course, my dad, he loves music also.”

As the daughter of renowned actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong, Mariel claimed that shying away from acting wasn’t deliberate as she even took a stab at it. “Actually, it wasn’t on purpose. As in nangyari lang talaga kasi a few months ago, or a year ago, I tried acting. I had a teleserye and a supporting role in a movie. And when you try something, you’ll really know when something is not for you. You can feel it in your heart that it’s not your passion.”

Having made it to the Top 15 of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant in 2013, Mariel felt more at ease this time around. “I was just having fun this time because the last time I joined, I pressured myself too much going into that since that was the first time I was really exposed to the public. This time, I was like, okay. You’re just going to have fun. You’re still going to be focused, but put yourself first and your mental and emotional health first.”
