Daryl Ong’s son relocated to the US and it took three years before the singer got to see him again. Daryl shared that the reunion happened when he was invited by Vice Ganda to be part of his tour in America.
“Recently nakita ko ‘yung anak ko na three years kong hindi nakita dahil nasa States. Sinama ako ni Vice sa US tour kaya sabi ko sobrang pasalamat ko kay Vice at sa TFC dahil kung hindi pa ako nasama sa show na ‘yun hindi ko alam kung kailan pa ako magkakaroon ng chance makaluwas at makita ‘yung anak ko,” Daryl relayed.
Darly shared that one of the reasons he joined The Voice of the Philippines was to reach out to his son. The singer wanted to make him proud despite the distance that separates them.
“Medyo hindi po okay ‘yung hiwalayan namin ng mom niya three years ago. So nag-States sila, actually hindi ko po alam, nagulat na lang ako na nasa States na sila so ‘yun since then medyo malabo ‘yung communication. Kaya ako sumali ng The Voice na iyon ‘yung way na [ipaabot ko] isa siya sa inspirasyon ko, na baka maging proud pa rin siya sa akin kahit wala man ako sa tabi niya,” he said.
The singer remarked that he is working very hard at the moment to establish his career in the Philippines so that he can visit his son again.
“Well sa ngayon siguro mas lalo ko pang pagbubutihan ‘yung career ko and mas bigyan pa ng importansiya ‘yung bawat opportunity na dumarating sa akin para mas umangat pa ako kung saan man ako ngayon. Who knows baka magkaroon ulit ako ng chance para magka-show doon. Kung hindi naman, kung ma-establish ko na ‘yung sarili ko talaga, I can afford na pumunta don just for vacation.”
Daryl is currently gearing up for his upcoming first major concert at the Music Museum on May 19. “Sobrang overwhelming, sobrang exciting, at the same time medyo kinakabahan kasi ito ‘yung unang major concert na produce ng Star Music for me,” he said.
One of his special guests for the concert is Vice Ganda who did not only pave the way for him to meet his son again but also help popularize his version of “Ikaw Na Nga”.
“Kaya rin nag-viral ‘yung ‘Ikaw na Nga’ dahil sa kanya eh dahil naging favorite version niya rin ‘yung ‘Ikaw Na Nga.’ Every GGV nakalatag ‘yung ‘Ikaw Na Nga’ na song, hindi pa kami nagme-meet that time. At may time pa nga na nag-tweet siya sa akin so ang daming na-curious about kung sino si Daryl Ong, na ‘yun ang version ni Daryl Ong ng ‘Ikaw Na Nga’ dahil kay Vice,” he stated.
