On Tonight with Boy Abunda, newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters admitted that she was trained her hardest to nail the Q&A portion of the pageant. She then recalled how she flubbed the Q&A portion when she joined Miss World Philippines in 2014. “I had really, really bad stage fright at that time – and I still do! I wasn’t so sure of myself at that time. When I got there, I just froze. The question was just simply, ‘Why should you be the next Miss World?’”
But this time, as Host Boy Abunda noted, Rachel had one of the best answers in the recent Binibining Pilipinas competition. “It wasn’t memorized.
This time I prepared. We did a lot of Q&A practice with several mentors and when we got to the night (of the competition) I wasn’t nervous because I knew I had done all that I could to lead up to that night and I said to myself, just go out there and have fun. If you don’t win, it’s not for you. If you do, then fantastic!”
Rachel is currently in a relationship with Camarines Sur Governor Miguel Villafuerte, who she said helped her prepare for the pageant. “Yes it’s very true. Not just him, his parents also! We were actually in Siargao over Holy Week and I had my notebook with me. I have my little Q&A notebook and I was constantly on it so when we were at lunch, they would shoot questions at me and then we would talk about it.”
Despite her busy schedule, she shared, “We make time. We’re very supportive of each other. When he was campaigning I was there for him and then throughout this journey he’s been there for me and he understands.”
