As filming for the much anticipated Erik Matti action movie Buy Bust starts this month, Mara Lopez admitted she is excited to play the role of a drug enforcement agent along with the other cast members Anne Curtis, Brandon Vera, and Victor Neri. “The role is very, very physically challenging because we are cops in this film and we’re all going to be doing our own stunts. Hopefully kayanin namin. So we’ve been training three times a week for fight training, gun handling, weapons handling, so it’s going to be fun,” she told Push.
After going through two rounds of auditions, Mara said she got excited when she finally landed the role. “When I first found out I got it I was super duper happy. Wala pa si direk Erik Matti sa filmography ko so I’m very excited to work with him. It’s going to be my first action film also. It’s also my first time to work with Anne,” she explained.
Apart from working on the same movie, Mara revealed another connection she has with the It’s Showtime host is that her ex-boyfriend Arnold Aninion is Anne’s personal fitness trainer. “I know na si Arnold trainer niya. I told her to send my regards and sabi niya hi daw (laughs). It’s been a long time and I haven’t seen him. I was surprised that he was still in Manila,” she added.
With a steady stream of projects lined up for the year, Mara said she is also looking into competing in an international jujitsu tournament like last year. Mara is also one of the hosts of a web-based sports show Gameplan. “It really depends on my schedule with work and my other travels. Other things I’m busy with this year, I’m focusing on stepping up my game in both surfing, jujitsu, and of course acting. I want to continue making films, a lot of movies this year and also with Gameplan, it’s going to be a different sort of Gameplan episodes so sana maabangan ng mga tao yun. Because we’re going to be doing more hardcore extreme sports that even I haven’t tried like skydiving and all these kinds of things so I’m very excited,” she shared.
