Things are looking up for Gerald Madrid

Gerald Madrid had been a notable actor making his way in the indie scene in the late nineties.

A boyish yet comely brute, Gerald was praised in his early stints in film, notably in Sana Pag-ibig Na helmed by Jeffrey Jeturian, where he was a relative neophyte but already made his mark by sharing lead credits with such luminaries as Julio Diaz and the late Nida Blanca. The next year he also played a lead character in Batang Pro, a film adaptation of an award-winning one-act play.

Since then, however, Gerald focused on doing daring roles, which relegated him as a mere sexy star. But he also did bit roles in major TV dramas like Tabing Ilog, and the films Kailangan Kita, Bcuz of You, and Till There Was You.

His natural talent took the backseat as even more controversies hounded him, especially those headlines in the gossip columns and showbiz talk shows linking him to Alma Moreno, whom he met on the 2004 local election campaign trail when he ran for city councilor in Paranaque.

He then became primarily a showbiz news item, especially when he admitted live on The Buzz during that time about his marital troubles that came about from the controversy.

This was when Gerald slid to obscurity after losing the elections and experiencing a dearth in showbiz projects.

While he did receive a lot of bad press in those subsequent bits about him and Alma, they eventually drifted apart, leading to a renaissance of sorts in his career.

Focus on acting

Gerald since focused on his core strength—being that impressive thespian people had praised for so long.

He had since been a regular on ABS-CBN teleseryes, drama anthologies, and Star Cinema films depicting difficult, complex characters only a few actors can portray effectively.

Gerald since appeared in Calla Lily with Nash Aguas and Erich Gonzales, Nasaan Ka, Elisa? with Melissa Ricks and Albert Martinez, Growing Up with Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, and Aryana with Ella Cruz. He also was cast in major film productions, such as A Love Story, with Aga Muhlach, Maricel Soriano and Angelica Panganiban.

His heralded distinction however is his prolific stature as a character actor in Maalaala Mo Kaya, appearing in a great number of episodes since 2001. In 2016 alone, Gerald appeared in three episodes—“Kamay” with Maricar Reyes and Lotlot De Leon, “Popcorn” with Aiko Melendez, Miles Ocampo, and

Dominic Ochoa, and “Singkwenta Pesos” with Awra Briguela.

Great year

2017 has become another great year for Gerald as major roles came his way. After appearing in a top rating episode “Bahay” with Maymay Entrata,

Gerald is now part of the Kapamilya Gold drama The Better Half, as Jonas the brother of the slain protagonist Sheryl (Regine Angeles), best friend of Camille (Shaina Magdayao). It truly comes full circle as director of The Better Half, Jeffrey Jeturian, actually discovered Gerald’s innate talent and helmed his first breakthrough film Sana Pag-ibig Na. Now they reunite for what becomes yet another significant project for Gerald.

Definitely, things are looking up for Gerald Madrid, now ever determined to further hone his craft as a premier character actor and reach stellar heights in the industry.
