Awra definitely won the hearts, not just of the Filipinos, but also of the international press.
International online sites of Teen Vogue and Mashable featured McNeal “Awra” Briguela following his impersonation of rap star Nicki Minaj. Awra, who performed Super Bass, won the very first Philippine kids edition of Your Face Sounds Familiar last Sunday, April 9.
Teen Vogue, in its article online, praised the FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano child star, saying, “The 14-year-old had his Nicki routine down to a science. Everything, from his outfit (with the signature pink wig) down to his facial gestures, was sheer perfection.”
Likewise, Mashable said, “He nailed her signature wide-eyed expression. Stay for the Q&A, when he manages to stay in character.”
Awra’s performance trended on social media. As of writing, the video currently garnered 1.8 million views of YouTube.
This is not the first time that a kid from Your Face got noticed by the international media. It can be recalled that Xia Vigor’s impersonation of Taylor Swift caught the attention of The Daily Mail UK, Perez Hilton, Time, People Magazine and The Huffington Post, among others. Likewise, the show’s second placer Elha Nympha performed on Steve Harvey’s The Little Big Shots in the US.
