On Gandang Gabi Vice, Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha and Queen of Soul Jaya recalled the first time they met each other at a songwriting competition in 1996.
“Noong first time namin siyang narinig sabi ko, ‘Wow! Saan ito nanggaling,’” Lani shared.
Jaya credits her vocal prowess to her mom, Elizabeth Ramsey. “Lalayo pa ba tayo sa nanay ko? Ang turo sa akin ng nanay ko, ‘day kailangan at importante ang showmanship! So I learned everything from her.”
It has been 13 years since the two have had the chance to really talk and catch up with each other, although they would see each other occasionally in passing.
“2004 wala na ako dito sa Pilipinas kaya ngayon lang talaga kami, as in yung ganitong [nagka-usapap], first time,” Lani explained.
Jaya added, “Mga banggaan. Nakasama si Reg (Regine Velasquez) noong one time. Nag-picture kami agad kasi wala kaming mga pictures so ayan picture na!”
During the interview, Vice would constantly joke that they probably didn’t really get along. At one point he chided, “Baka naman before 2004 hindi na kayo nagkikibuan. Nabuking tuloy na may alitan sila sa SOP pa lang.” But Jaya was quick to discount this saying, “Ay waley. Wala talaga kaming alitan.”
Although they hung out during their former noontime show, Lani would leave immediately thereafter. She shared, “Sa totoo lang ang nangyayari ganito. After noong noontime show namin noon, ako bilang ako kasi yung mayroong maliliit na anak noon, uwi agad.”
Vice again joked that they’re just putting up a front even saying, “Mauunawan naman namin kung hindi. Kasi kami ni Anne hindi rin naman kami close. Pina-plastic ko lang yun eh. Ginagamit ko lang siya para dumami yung followers ko sa Twitter at sa Instagram… joke!”
But the two really have nothing but love for each other.
“Siya yung tipo na kahit sinong kausapin niya, swak! Kahit sino na kausapin nito, okay ito,” Lani said, to which Jaya responded, “Ganoon din naman kayo.”
