Jenine Desiderio falls victim to suspicious card swiping

031417-JenineDesiderio_PUSH.jpgJenine Desiderio wasn’t able to mask her surprise upon discovering that suspicious transactions were made on her debit card in August of last year.

The A Love to Last star only discovered it some three weeks ago by coincidence.

Doon ko inisa isa ang statement of accounts ko and hindi ko nahanap ang hinahanap ko pero nakita ko ‘yung isang section ang nakasulat Disney Resort Chiba. Marami. Eh hindi pa ako nagpupunta ng Japan in the recent years,” she said in an interview.

According to Jenine, the transaction couldn’t have happened because the last time that she was in Japan was in the ‘90s. Even though she noted that her daughter Janella Salvador has an extension of the card and did go to Japan last year to shoot for her soap Born for You, she said couldn’t have used the card.

“My daughter went to Japan pero ‘yung statement ay August nasa Japan si Janella around March so medyo malabo,” she explained.

Further investigation revealed that the fraudulent transaction wasn’t made on Janella’s extension card but rather on Jenine’s principal card.

“In-investigate namin ‘yung ano daw siya eh, swipe. So ibig sabihin gumamit sila ng physical card,” she added.

Jenine pointed about that the P109,000 worth of transaction at Tokyo Disney Resort couldn’t have been possible because “‘yung physical card nasa akin dito sa Pilipinas.”

What’s making the transaction more suspicious was the fact that it was done numerous times.

Di ba kapag nasa bakasyon kay mag-swipe ka lang kapag checkout na, ito maraming beses. Per day, mga dalawa, tatlo. Parang same date pero maraming swipe. Tapos same amount,” Jenine said.

What did the bank say about it?

“Up to now supposedly under investigation pa rin. Wala pa akong definite answers kung papaano, although they were helpful enough naman,” she said after admitting that she was shocked that such a thing happened.

In the end, Jenine said she’s not bent on bringing up the incident to the authorities because she’s still giving her bank the benefit of the doubt.

But the incident did make her realize a couple of things.

“Although maingat naman ako sa transactions ko, hindi ko alam na kahit maingat ka pwede palang mangyari ‘yung mga ganong bagay,” she said.
