Khalil Ramos on his first gay role: ‘This was my hardest role to date’

031017-KhalilRamos_PUSH.jpgWith his Cinema One Originals 2016 film entry 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten set for nationwide release on March 15, Khalil Ramos admitted that he wants his fans to see him do a role that is unlike his usual boy-next-door persona. “Yes I’m confident that I can be edgier. Yung sinasabi niyong virginal image ko, it’s kind of like a phase kasi when I started showbiz when I was 15 so siguro yung strategy namin was yung gradual moves kasi I want my career to be long. This was my hardest role to date. It’s very emotional, very powerful. I guess it came at the right time. This is the hardest role that I’ve ever done and prior to our first shooting day, sobrang dami naming ginawang preparations. A lot of meetings with producers and characterization,” he shared.

With his role as a high school student who develops feelings for one of his male classmates, Khalil said he prepared well for the role of Felix. “I did a lot of research. I talked to a lot of people as well. The film is set in the ‘90s and the LGBT community then wasn’t that accepted as it is now. So with that I talked to people whom I think could relate na who was a high school student nung ‘90s na closet gay kasi hindi sila tatanggapin ng society. So yun yung mga kinuha kong information. I gathered it all. I watched a couple of movies also and with that a lot of workshops and meetings with direk, nabuo namin yung character na si Felix. Yes it was very hard and very emotional for me. I actually hard a hard time disengaging from the role every after shooting day. it’s a pretty hard role,” he recalled.

Playing a gay character was just that for Khalil who says he could never fall for the same sex. “I was born and raised by my parents. I’m 100% sure about my gender and sexual orientation so I am sure that I won’t be able to fall in love with the same gender. I love girls (laughs),” he added.

The actor-singer said 2017 will be a busy year for him because he plans to direct films as well. “I’m planning to do a lot of short films and we’re submitting scripts also for different festivals. If ever in 2018 hopefully I can come with my debut film. But I won’t rush into things. I have so many things on my table right now. It’s something that I really want to do but if time tells me that it’s really not the year then I’ll push it. But it’s like a dream for me,” he shared.

Currently sporting more facial hair, Khalil said his more mature look is also for his newest teleserye prohect. “This thing is for a role (laughs). A lot of people have been asking me but it’s for a role that I’m doing now sa TV. It requires me to have a change in the middle of the series so right now they won’t let me shave because my role is a rock star, bad boy-ish. My role hasn’t been established much yet but I’ve taped a lot of scenes na,” he said.
