As her film Cinema One Originals film Baka Bukas gets released by Star Cinema nationwide starting March 1, Jasmine Curtis said she looks forward to becoming busy again after a two month break from showbiz. “I wanted a break. I spent it in Australia with my parents. I wanted to spend time with my parents kasi for a short time nakatira sila under the same house. So I just wanted to experience it and get to know my parents a little bit more since pag nakikita ko sila it’s papuslit puslit lang, Sunday lunch lang or video call lang. Sayang naman yung opportunity. You know what I’ve been working for six years now, yung dream ko is laging yung tipong break lang na talagang saglit lang and I want to treat my career as a career not as my life. There needs to be a work-life balance and I think nagiging issue na yan ngayon in our industry na lagi na lang overworked, lagi na lang puyat so nagkakasakit. So ako very family first and I want to get to know my family members. My parents aren’t getting any younger so yun yung two months ko,”she shared.
The 22-year-old actress said everyone in their family is excited ever since her sister Anne got engaged last December. Jasmine hopes to be part of the planning even though she has work. “Madaming mangyayari ngayong taon na ito in terms of my family. Of course ikakasal na si ate so everyone is very excited and wants to be involved in that lalo na ako bilang little sister niya. At least every step of the way matulungan ko siya and she needs me so I think if anything naman I don’t want to say that I am going to be very, very busy with TV but I will definitely still have projects or small parts on TV. But at the same time alam naman nating lahat na I love doing films and finding the right material and being very outspoken about the messages of the films that I do. This year it’s a different direction and it’s about prioritizing myself and I guess in a sense I want to be capable of making the proper decisions, not just irrationally na nag-de-decide ako na okay dahil yun yung ginagawa ng kasabay ko ngayon, yun din ang gagawin ko. I don’t want to compete against other people so I would rather work on myself na lang,” she admitted.
The Baka Bukas star said she is proud of all that her sister has accomplished in her career. “As an artist she has established herself in Showtime as a host. I wouldn’t say na yung mga changes ni ate is because directly of the relationship pero rather because she was maturing, she’s finding different things that she’s interested in and she also presented a different view of the world. Of course like any person na ka-relationship mo, iba yung perception nila sa mundo. Gusto naman ni ate and of course gusto niya yung company ni Erwan (Heussaff),” she shared.
Ever since she joined showbiz at the age of 15, Jasmine said she already knew that she did not want to follow the exact same career path as her older sister. “Magkaiba kasi kami ni ate. Stronger siya in terms of kaya niya yung mga requirements ng industry na ito. Kaya niyang sundan, kaya niyang hindi mag-complain. Pero ako kasi tawag sa akin ng ibang tao masyadong aktibista na laging may nasasabi, laging may gustong i-share na opinion or other perspective. So I think when it comes to following her path I think definitely in terms of I want to inspire people, gusto kong matuwa yung mga tao tuwing nakaakusap nila ako or naririnig nila or nababasa nila yung mga sinasabi ko or napapanuod nila yung mga proyekto ko. Pero in terms of fame siguro hindi ko pa masabi kasi napakalaking responsibility talaga to be as famous as someone like her. Or even the love teams that we have, you hold a lot of responsibility for what your fans will see from you and what they want to copy from you or to be inspired by you. Ako kasi nasa stage pa ako ng experimenting, growing up and really trying to find my place. Yung typical millenial problem na sinasabi nila. And I think baka irrational pa if ever I go down the path at this stage in my life. Maybe in the future pag mas tumanda na rin ako baka makarating din ako dun but I’m not pressured naman to follow in her path,” she said.
As for her own love life, Jasmine said she is happy with her non-showbiz boyfriend Jeff Ortega. “Okay kami. We’re very happy. Normal. Nothing new. The past year ang daming opportunities to travel. Most of the weddings that happened last year and then itong Pasko, sumama siya sa amin for the New Year. For now yung Japan lang namin yung recent. For now pahinga muna kami. Baka sa Holy Week na lang ulit. Yearning ko talaga yun na makapag-travel a lot and to find someone that will have the same interest as I do. Ako nag-ta-travel ako because that’s what I like to do. Swak naman kami pagdating sa travel although minsan naghahabol ng mga plane, mga train dahil I think in general men have a lack of understanding for time management (laughs). Sa marriage hindi pa (ako ready). Hindi ko pa kaya. Ang dami ko pang kailangang bagay for myself,” she admitted.
