Oscars does a “Miss Universe,” wrong Best Picture winner announced
022717-Oscar_PUSH.jpgIt’s the 89th Academy Awards today, February 27 and the online world is abuzz not only because of the winners but of a moment similar to that of Steve Harvey’s 2015 Miss Universe boo-boo.

Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announced “La La Land” as the Best Picture winner but the celebration of the producers on stage was short-lived as they discover that the trophy was not actually theirs.

Beatty later explained that he was given a card that read “Emma Stone” and “La La Land.” He admitted to being confused about it and even paused before Dunaway announced the winner.

“Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins later said, “Very clearly even in my dreams this couldn’t be true, but to hell with dreams – this is true.”

Twitter immediately went on fire, with comments referring to the similar situation that happened during the Miss Universe pageant where Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner. The beauty queen was already wearing the crown when Harvey went back on stage to apologize and say it was Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach who really won.

Even Miss Universe’s Twitter account could not help but react on the issue.
