EXCLUSIVE: Rayver Cruz recalls biggest worry in doing his first ever musical movie

Rayver Cruz has crossed off another milestone on his bucket list after taking part in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival entry Ang Larawan.Playing the role of Charlie Dacanay, Rayver joins Joanna Ampil, Rachel Alejandro, and hunky co-Kapamilya actor Paulo Avelino in the Loy Arcenas opus based on National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin’s three-act play titled A Portrait of the Artist as a Filipino.“Parang ang rehistro kasi sa movie para akong boy toy ni Ms. Zsa Zsa [Padilla]. Pero hindi naman, lagi lang ako ang kasama niya. Laging kaming tatlo and lagi siyang maraming kasama and parang ako yung laging nasa tabi niya,” Rayver clarified about his latest character in an exclusive interview with PUSH.Aside from being tapped to join his first ever musical, Rayver was also very honored to be able to act with the local theater who’s who.“Sobrang happy ako na nakapasok ako sa movie kasi solid na musical ito eh ng culture ng Pilipinas. Tapos yung mga actors pa dito mga legends na sa musical industry. Mr. Ryan Cayabyab yang si Direk Loy,” he said. “Sobrang blessed rin ako na naisip nila akong kunin.”Notwithstanding his years of experience in the business, Rayver claimed that he was very much uneasy while filming the movie.“Siyempre nakakakaba parin kasi hindi naman ako literal na kumanta doon sa film. May mga words na sinasabi ako pero hindi naman siya solid na kanta. Pinagsayaw nila ako, which is mas comfortable akong gawin,” he said.Rayver underscored that the production team were all so meticulous about bringing the film to life.“Sobrang intricate siya na kailangan papasok ka pa rin ng tama. Kaya kapag nire-rehearse namin kinakabahan ako kasi iba naman siya sa ASAP eh,” he said.The fact that he wanted to veer away his portrayal of Charlie from his usual ASAP performances proved to be quite challenging. According to him the film’s treatment was very similar to that of an actual stage play.“Ang isa pang naging challenging na baka hindi ko ma-execute na parang play. Baka magawa ko na parang ASAP. Eh ayoko yung mangyari kasi napapanood nila ako sa ASAP,” he worried.In the end, Rayver said he has his director and co-stars to thank as they all helped him bring Charlie to life.
